On the evening of 13 May 2025, Sanlorenzo Asia-Pacific welcomed a select group of guests to an exclusive experience at
M+ Museum, Hong Kong’s world-renowned centre for contemporary visual culture. Held in partnership with M+ as part of Sanlorenzo Asia-Pacific’s corporate support of the institution, the evening offered a rare opportunity to explore the museum’s landmark exhibition,
Picasso for Asia: A Conversation, through a private, curator-led tour.
An Evening of Art, Dialogue, and Design
The evening began with a cocktail reception at the elegant M+ Lounge, where guests gathered against the backdrop of Victoria Harbour. The event was opened with welcoming remarks by Daniele Lucà, CEO of Simpson Marine/ Sanlorenzo APAC, and Doryun Chong, Artistic Director and Chief Curator of M+.
In his address, Daniele reflected on the shared values between Sanlorenzo and the world of art — from craftsmanship and innovation to the pursuit of timeless beauty. He noted that Sanlorenzo’s long-standing commitment to art and design is not only reflected in its yachts but also in its collaborations with leading artists, architects, and cultural institutions around the world.
Doryun spoke to the significance of the Picasso for Asia exhibition, which marks the first time masterpieces from the Musée National Picasso-Paris are being shown in dialogue with works from an Asian museum collection. “This exhibition asks a series of fundamental questions,” he shared. “Why is Picasso still the world’s most famous artist? And how do we understand his legacy in a global context, particularly from an Asian perspective?”
He also offered insight into the curatorial process behind the exhibition, which brings together over sixty works by Picasso and more than eighty works by Asian and Asian-diasporic artists from the M+ Collections. The result is a bold, intercultural conversation that explores themes of influence, adaptation, and artistic exchange across time and geography.
The Conversation
Following the welcome speeches, guests were invited on a private, curator-led tour with one of the lead curators of the exhibition. The tour offered a rare opportunity to experience the exhibition in an intimate setting, with expert commentary that illuminated the connections between Picasso’s legacy and the evolving narratives of Asian modern and contemporary art.
A Shared Language
This special evening reflected Sanlorenzo’s ongoing commitment to artistic engagement and cultural dialogue. As a brand that views yacht building as a form of art, Sanlorenzo continues to support initiatives that celebrate creativity, craftsmanship, and the power of meaningful experiences.
