Sanlorenzo has continued to grow its inimitable brand, with the addition of new production facilities at their headquarters in Ameglia. Designed by Lissoni Casal Ribeiro the addition of new facilities was a strategic decision that will not just expand and renovate the headquarters, but will also communicate the shipyard’s spirit, brand, philosophy and design approach to the world – demonstrating the unique approach that has allowed Sanlorenzo to reach the highest levels of worldwide production of yachts and superyachts.
As the centre of the Sanlorenzo universe, the Ameglia site has served as the headquarters of the company since 1999. set into the banks of the Magra River, just inside the nature park of Montemarcello-Magra. It has been the base for the development of a number of Sanlorenzo’s most popular designs including the entry-level model of the three SL, SD and SX yacht ranges.
The new Ameglia plant has an area of 22,000 sqm, divided into three units: two buildings for the production of yachts, at a total of 10,000 sqm, and an office complex on four levels. All told, the new industrial complex covers an area of 135,000 sqm, of which 25,000 sqm are for production, and 2,700 sqm for offices. Work began on the new facilities in August 2018 and involved over 200 workers, 20,000 hours of design and 250,000 man hours for the construction work.
The new facilities contain 24 production stations to guarantee the construction of 45 to 50 units per year from 76’ to 100’, with a resulting increase in the number of direct and indirect employees from 450 to about 900 workers. Furthermore, the layout developed for the new plants will ensure both augmented production capacity and greater efficiency of about 30%. This result has also been achieved thanks to the implementation of a lock gate, a unique construction that permits passage of the yachts between the original site and the new production site, ensuring the continuity of the river bank when closed, in case of weather alerts.
With Sanlorenzo placing an important focus on environmental issues, the Ameglia headquarters have been designed to comply with the criteria set for UNI EN ISO 14001:2015 certification, indicating achievement of the best control of environmental impact connected to the activities, products and services of the company. Moreover, the site has been designed for energy self-reliance, thanks to the installation of 8000 sqm of solar panels.
